"My in-laws have always been conservative. They have always been Republican.... What my husband and I have witnessed, however, has been an ideological shift, from a relationship with religion to blind idolatry," writes HuffPost Guest Writer Hannah Selinger. "When it comes to raising children, it’s our job to call out the things that are terrible. My job as a mother includes teaching life lessons — and I can see no larger life lesson than confronting bad things when you see them." // Read more at the link in bio. // 📷: Getty Images

I’m starting to be allergic to two words “conservative” & “liberal” 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
How about just a common sense? Where did that go? 🙄
Do any of you extreme right or left ever function without labels?? I’m both! What r you going to call me?
It was a fantastic article! It was real and raw. The author was honest about her dilemma and struggles.
Nobody has a secret manual on how to be a parent, but censoring disrespectful relatives is exhausting, especially for parents of small children.
I’m old enough to remember several cycles of politics, elections and presidents. America didn’t have a demagogue in my lifetime and we simply don’t know what to do with it! 🙏🏻🙄🙏🏻

@destiny_factss you need to read for comprehention. The article is chock full of left wing buzz words. Fox news, veiled racism, etc. She loaths her in-laws so much that she finds evil in everything they do. Sure, they are probably a bit over the top on the conspiracy stuff that wouldnt be surprising but i read nothing to indicate hateful words or deeds. The husband has opted to let his wife run a muck because he doesnt have to stones to make the rules in his house clear to his parents. This will end poorly for all involved and it will fall squarely on the wifes shoulders. Her response will be its not her fault and she was just protecting (harming) her crotch fruit.

@1974_weasel there is no evidence of massive control issues. She doesn’t want hate in her children’s lives, that is perfectly understandable. I’m not saying that she’s a relaxed parent, but there’s nothing here to suggest that she’s got actual control issues either, and she’s certainly not unhinged. As for the husband, it’s not weak not to be able to cut your parents out of your life, even if they are hateful. That too is perfectly normal and perfectly understandable. No matter what parents do, they’re still your parents. They’re still the people who raised you, and as such, most people still feel an attachment to them no matter what

@druishamericanprincess what was your intention of the article? Older adults are very opinionated. Unfortunately, we can’t stop them sometimes, but removing them from the lives of your children is depriving your children of knowing their grandparents. Be honest with your children and talk to them! Your views and morals can still be passed on and your kids can learn how grandma and grandpa spoke their minds without caring what others think. There just might me a lesson in allowing them to know them. It’s up to you to make sure they have the right values. You can’t shield them from everyone.

Some of these comments show no compassion or first hand experience with a most difficult situation. I would always protect my kids from racist narrow mindedness and hatred. When you look the other way and by silence condone awful words and actions, you are guilty too. When you try to defend what is indefensible, guilty. Children deserve to be protected. I wish I’d cut off my dad way before I did, before he’d further damaged my girls and I. Like your president, he was a pervert and racist. Geez, what’s to debate here anyway?
