Hong Kong’s airport suspended check-ins for a second straight day on Tuesday as protesters again disrupted its operations, hours after the city’s embattled leader pleaded for order amid escalating chaos. The protests that have shaken #HongKong this summer began with huge demonstrations in early June against an unpopular bill. Since then, they have become a broader movement against Beijing’s power in this semiautonomous territory. Click the link in our bio for a guide to what prompted the protests, how they evolved and why it all matters. You can also follow the latest developments on today's protests. @lamyikfei took this photo.

Are those in support of mainland China just gonna ignore that the protests stemmed from China going back on it's promise to allow Hong Kong to be its own entity until 2047? In recent years, China has been chipping away at the freedoms which differentiated Hong Kong from the mainland. Rather than dying a death by a thousand cuts, Hong Kong citizens are willing to stand up for themselves. Yet you're going to diminish their effort to resist this anguishing death of their liberties? You demonize these protesters for what? For protesting against being abducted to China to face a corrupt law system where the Communist Party rules by law; there has been many instances where the Communist Party alters laws based on the leader's whims. Those against the protesters, are you against using force to conduct self-defence when someone beats you or your family without just cause? While the safety of certain groups of people may be in jeopardy, struggling to ensure the liberties of future generations is well worth the sporadic bouts of violence. (1)

@andrew_intaipei The only reason that people like you try so hard to badmouth China is that you are jealous. You guys are jealous of the accelerated development China has achieved within a few years which other countries cannot do. You are jealous of the speedy economic growth China has made since taking on the reform and opening-up policy. You are being pathetic as you meddle in things that has nothing do to with you.

@mintdd2019 I don't believe nationalism is negative, but I do think it's important to look at situations objectively. Actually, what China does outside of the mainland IS our business, and as HK is a former colony of the UK, and China is in breach of it's agreement with us... it IS absolutely our business. Had there been no agreement, the situation would be different. There is no honour in breaking one's agreement.

Lol at the brainwashed Chinese nationalists trying their hardest to “save face “ for their motherland ....if only they could understand that it’s not about shaming China but about shaming and overturning the governments unfair and in democratic decision to extradite whomever they consider “dissidents” to China which is notorious for its unfair legal system favouring the Chinese communist party

They disturb people’s normal travel, they are not marching, they are making riots!A media should not conduct guided reporting to mislead the public. You only need to report the facts, and the public will judge the right and wrong by itself. Hong Kong is a part of China. As a Chinese, we believe that most Hong Kong people are looking forward to love and peace.
