In the aftermath of the Brexit vote, the London-born photographer @marknevillestudio documented life in Brittany, France’s “Little Britain,” hoping to show the complexity and openness of what may seem to be an inward-looking place. The pictures—collected in a new book, “Parade”—show an agricultural community that is thoroughly modern and industrialized, devoted to its traditional sporting and cultural pursuits, but sharply aware that neither agribusiness nor rural nostalgia will provide a viable, or ethical, future. Disappointed to see that instead of showing the complexities of such a rich region, @newyorkermag has instead chosen to reimagine Brittany as a long lost version of aristocratic Britain. The reality of a thriving Celtic culture is a stark difference from the bleak portraits that have nothing in common with the Brittany I grew up to love and appreciate.

Oh la la ... These pictures are so bad and show no knowledge of Bretagne (Brittany..). Very poor view. Some photographers should study more. Check my page : montourdebreiz.wordpress.com Every summer I tour around the coast of Bretagne , my ancestors are from there, future looks quite good for this region, Brexit or not

I have lived in Britanny for more than a decade and spend at least a month there every year. I have neither seen nor heard of any fox hunting. Not sure the works of this photograph are very representative of what can be seen in the region.

How come I don't recognise nothing of the region where I was born and raised...? I'd really like to know what kind of traditional sporting pursuits you're talking about... If this is fox hunting, you got it all wrong.

Euh @newyorkermag Not sure that any single one of my Breton friends would qualify themselves as being from “Little Britain”. It really doesn’t do this beautiful and proud region any justice.

And what do you mean by “clearly” how I would interpret it. What from my statement tells you I was predisposed to having a particular slant for my statement?
