This is the only thing I want to eat today: I give you my Watermelon, Feta and Black Olive Salad, my friends. And I feel a little bit cooler just looking at the picture!

@greek_aborigina I am not ignorant to that - but there is no Greek town called Feta ! and the EU ruling is not going to change the fact that my mother who speaks Turkish, asks my Arabic speaking father to fetch the 'Feta' or the 'Halloumi" to the breakfast table as did their parents. It's all non-sense trade protectionism but if it makes you feel that you have expropriated a food product, then good for you in all honesty. The culture remains unchanged.

@lance_chalabi you mother can still call the Turkish cheese as feta. There is no problem with that. But the producers will be asked to change the name in their products as Turkish white cheese or greek feta style cheese. I think is the same as Turkish delight. You need to put a step also and claim the PDO for this.

I actually ate this yesterday. Got it years ago from one of your books and still make it several times each summer. Its perfect on those hot summer days, but I like it so much I would eat it in the middle of winter if there were any watermelons to be had. :-)

@lance_chalabi OK thanks for the info. In the European Union website, under the PDO tab you can find further information about the Greek feta and the place of origin like epuros, and peloponisos. Sorry , it's midnight here, I am going for sleep. Goodnight

@lance_chalabi In 2002 the European ruling recognized feta cheese as a Greek product under the Protected Designation of Origin. These days the Greeks producers ate going to apply in the national courts the PDO for feta to be worldwide. Just as Champagne

A similar variety of halloumi cheese (not grilled) and watermelon is commonly eaten in Cyprus. A wonderful combination of slightly salted cheese with the sweet and refreshing melon is a truly unique and delicious experience!
