Mount Vinson at 4892m (16,050’) defines the Vinson Massif, a big plateau that is integral to the Sentinel Range of Antarctica. It’s the high point of the frozen & dry continent.
In 1997 Anselme Baud and I were guiding the peak. After the fun we climbed the Western Ice Stream and skied back down. Anselme wrote the guide book for ski descents in Chamonix, France. I was humbled that he asked me to share this adventure. It coincided with his 50th birthday. I was 34 at the time. These images are from that happy day.
This coming austral summer I will be joining @madisonmtng and @garrettmadison1 as a guide. Our journey departs 27 December 2019. We have space for four additional climbers. Fun will be had. Water will be melted. We will be cold. We will eat oatmeal. If we are lucky we’ll tag the summit.
If this is your cup of tea please take a look at the webpage from @madisonmtng.

@conrad_anker I appreciate your response to the naysayers about wanting to spend the money for the experience. Work hard and experience life is my motto! In that vain, I dig following your expeditions and adventures. If you could, point me to some good resources on conditioning and training for some of the expeditions you pursue. I’m seriously considering exploring a big adventure, but want to me ready for whatever it might be, both physically and mentally.

I climb for @kissthesky_conquerdiabetes and have always dreamed of taking this quest for a cure to the ends of the Earth and climbing the Vinson Massif, and joining your team and over my 1/2/20 birthday would make this a dream come true. I’ll check out the webpage from @madisonmtng and @Conrad_anker thanks for the purchase of carbon offset credits, I’ll do the same if I can make this journey happen

@conrad_anker Carbon credit seems like some kind of smoke and mirror cryptocurrency shell game to me. Seems real shady. I can’t seem to grasp what EXACTLY a carbon credit is. Who EXACTLY gets the money and what happens to every cent. On a side (butt kissing) note, you should get credit just for being Conrad Anker today’s voice of the wild places.

I heard once over bourbon ? on the Inca trail that the altitude in Antarctica is constantly changing due to the ozone, or at least the oxygen levels in the interior, did I hear that and how does it effect your efforts down there? If it’s my bourbon memory recalling this, please ignore. Best, Tim

@conrad_anker that sounds awesome! How technical is the climb and how much experience is needed before being able to sign up for it/attempt it?

How do carbon credits work in reducing our impact? Genuinely want to know if it's a legit option, travel really takes a toll on the Earth.
