Swipe ~ Corner tables in two restaurants... Amritsar, Punjab, where we had amazing butter nan and paneer marsala for dinner in India, and McAllen, Texas, where we met Queen Elizabeth for breakfast, enjoying eggs Benedict and a bowl of fruit in the United States. I’ve seen a few beautifully strange things at corner tables over the past six months.

javanoted I keep coming back to this photo. It’s funny how we can all associate with something in a photograph, that sincerely was not a part of its origin. That color of pink reminded me of the old formula color of Pepto Bismo (sp), and the purse could have easily been one of my mother’s, circa 1960’s. I love Naan, so that wasn’t what was bothering me. I hit upon it just minutes ago. It’s the sheet trays, the leftovers. A stark reminder of being left in the ward of a hospital. My mother’s gone, it’s dinner. I don’t feel like eating. I’m homesick, scared, but the nurse encourages me to try something. I dig into what I think will be mashed potatoes. Suddenly I realize that everything, and so much more, is wrong. You have ‘painted’, it clearly, John. Sadly, this reminded me of loneliness, fear, and the god awful taste of mashed turnips. I’m only seven in this moment.
