The girl who played with her toys in the backyard wasn’t around but her relative, Juan García, was. He has been living for 42 years in the family house, a home painted pink as the My Little Pony resting on a garden table overlooking the border with Mexico. When we ask what has changed in San Benito, Texas, Juan remembered the day’s before the fence, walking across the open green space, swimming with neighbours in the waters of the Rio Grand River. Today he says, “It’s like living in a prison”.
