Photo by @jonathankingston | I was heartbroken to watch Notre Dame engulfed in flames. In the news coverage I saw a photo from inside of the church–its shattered ceiling gaping open to the sky–and this iconic cross still standing above Nicolas Coustou’s sculpture “Descent from the Cross” at the far end of the collapsed cathedral’s roof. The hands of the statue are raised as if in disbelief of the tragedy it was beholding. My heart is in Paris today.
