The Cathedral of Notre-Dame still stands, and a devastated France has one unwavering goal: It will be rebuilt. This photo shows the interior of the church a day after a devastating fire swept through the cathedral, which is an iconic symbol of the beauty and history of Paris. The 800-year-old Gothic masterwork is now scorched, battered and missing its spire and much of its roof. President @EmmanuelMacron of France said he hoped the cathedral could be rebuilt within 5 years — though at least one expert said it could take 3 times that long. Officials are treating Monday’s fire as an accident, not a deliberate act, and the cause is still unknown. Visit the link in our profile to see more from inside the cathedral and to read the latest developments. Christophe Petit Tesson shot this pool photo.
