Over the course of my wanderings through the south of France, I roamed from village to village in search of an authentic, rural France. Memories of my first photographic forays in Iran, when I was barely more than an adolescent, rose to the surface. Almost three decades later, the time had passed, leaving the lasting impression over the course of this long reportage that it had been a gift. I opened the doors to the magnificent cathedral of Albi. I climbed a hidden stairway to gain some height and get as close as possible to the lancet arches of this treasure of Gothic art. The weather was gloomy and the cathedral was plunged in the obscurity which gave me precious little opportunity to reveal its beauty. A ray of light pierced the clouds. Without a flash, I did not alter the ambience, nor did I attract the attention of the crowds. For an instant, the divine light filled the space. A pause, a heartbeat... I reflected that the houses of God, whatever religion they belonged to, are places where all can encounter a certain peaceful spirituality.
