Teamwork makes the dream work for the banded mongoose (Mungos mungo). This social species lives in groups of around 20 individuals in a range of open African habitats including grasslands, woodlands, and brush lands. Its diet mainly consists of insects, but a group may coordinate efforts to take on larger, more dangerous prey, like a sand snake. Group members are also keen on taking care of the injured, young, and elders by assisting with grooming and sharing food.
