A bit melancholic sitting in 18C passing over the tip of Greenland en route to Newark - Memories.

I have no sense of time, place, what day it is. All are a continuum of the last 7 weeks in India. Maybe the most heavy, emotional, expanding I’ve experienced. Exhausted, elated, already jumping again into the beauty of the unknown, I’m stuck in this metal bird for 15+ hrs remembering...

Out of nowhere last Nov, a person with the IG handle, @ankitha_rs, wrote me a brief message here on Instagram. Unlike hundreds of others I received by my sisters & brothers in India, asking repeatedly, “Can I join your team, sir?!”. Ankitha spoke differently. Not begging. As if she was ready to have her life completely altered for all the history to come. It has been.

I’m also thinking of @camillaferrariphoto, our weeks traveling, watching Camilla create most compelling 9x16 films of the @outofedenwalk for @ナショナルジオグラフィック. So much laughing, giving, silliness and chai. Telling stories, pushing the limits of ourselves. Last Nov was Camilla’s 1st trip to India. What better way to throw a filmmaker into the brilliance & madness of a @ナショナルジオグラフィック story - her 1st night was in the most shithole truck driver roadside hotel you could imagine. $3 a room. Camilla didn’t complain a bit. Smiling, going as fine as I was just being there, amongst the crazy flashing lights, smells, trucks roaring past. There were rats too.

And Ram Ram. We’ve worked on 3 @ナショナルジオグラフィック stories together in 10 years. @kewalmauryatravels is the kindest, most gentle, giving, committed friend I know. He drove us more than 10,000 km (6200+ ml) across all of north India in Nov-Dec 2018 & Jan-Mar 2019. There is no more amazing than Ram and his car, White Lightening. Ram is as sweet as Winnie The Poo.

All this may seem nothing to do with this photo, an irrigation hose meandering through a tea plantation in West Bengal. Spiritually it does...it reminds me of walking down this hill, following this weaving, thinking of Ram, Camilla and Ankitha, thankful. So thankful.

Above the world and all your experiences, from "the metal bird' processing and sharing again, such profound feelings are transmitted to us followers, who see your inages and we click our hearts, your words now give an extra dimension- the details, km's, teams of people, cars with name like White Lightening.... it clicks my soul to read your reflections... I've never been to India, perhaps I never will. As a 4 year old girl i ventured into my new neighbours homes, with great curiosity as they were new settlers from India; i gazed at thei colours, saris, chillies, bangles, bindis, and flavours, coriander, garlic, chipattis... later my sweetest friend would spend months each year there in India and send me stories on postcards. Thank you for taking us there, for the rickety rooms, the slow pour chai and the beautiful faces, some worn down on the surface by adversity but still diamonds twinkling in the eyes. 🌟 happy home coming John. Thanks again for the trip 🧡
