This innovative organization trains women with no formal education to become dental hygienists, a skill that they will use when they return to villages where tooth infections frequently result in death.

Barefoot College embraces the idea that women who are undereducated can successfully learn trades in #technology, #engineering and #medicine. Trainees are often illiterate or semi-literate, but that doesn’t stop them from learning these skills successfully. They are also grandmothers who maintain strong roots in their villages and are influential in community development. These women will return to their homes and help improve the lives of themselves and others.
