Elite ice climber Angela Limbach's idea of a perfect winter day involves hanging by the tip of an ice axe from a frozen waterfall above Lake Superior. "Even on the coldest days I'd rather be climbing above crashing waves instead of sitting on my couch," said the 28-year-old, who is ranked 36th in the world among women ice climbers.
After entering a competition on a whim in 2017 and finishing second, she now competes in @uiaamountains World Cup competitions globally.

Competitions consist of two disciplines: lead climbing, which generally takes place on plywood structures, and speed climbing up ice towers that are 40 to 50 feet high.
The sport can look intimidating, but Ms. Limbach's said it's more about leg strength and flexibility than arm strength.
