Photos by @Tim Laman. A Western Grebe stares into the depths, no doubt trying to spot its next fishy meal. Swipe to see a little surprise…. have you figured out what that is sticking out from the birds backside? Yes, that is one of its feet! Grebes have their legs positioned very far back on the bodies, and have lobe-finned toes for efficient paddling underwater. They are very successful divers. At this moment this bird was just having a little stretch.
