@Tim Laman Wildlife Photo Tips: Cape Petrels aka Pintados in flight. When leaving the last Antarctic Islands behind and sailing into the Drake Passage, ships are often followed by flocks of these beautiful seabirds. I love spending a lot of time out on the back deck, experimenting with photographing them in various ways. Two ideas for today’s tips: The first is using a slow shutter speed on flying birds (1/60th in all these shots) to blur the background and add interesting motion. You need to track the motion to get a least some areas of sharpness though. Second, think about experimenting with converting images to Black&White. Especially with high contrast subjects like these birds, it can give a more artistic interpretation to a rather flat-light day. Using a monopod like the Gitzo I’m using can improve your success rate on these panning/tracking shots by taking out a lot of the up-and-down shake. @GitzoInspires #FramedonGitzo #TL_WildlifePhotoTips #wildlifephotography #black&white #Antarctica #petrel @NatGeoExpeditions
