Practice makes perfect: Tuesday marked the beginning of Losar, the Tibetan New Year. The celebration lasts for 15 days with much prayer, dance, and ceremony. In Labrang Monastery, novice monks (trapa), practice blowing the dungchen, the Tibetan long horn, used in Buddhist ceremonies and call to prayer. The sound is compared to the singing of elephants.
