It has begun to sink in more and more that my positive attitude and insane amount of confidence is one of my biggest strengths. If you had told me that would be one of my competitive advantages when I first started weightlifting - it would have been laughable. I use to cry a lot in training, I use to have full blown panic attacks even because I struggle with anxiety. I’ve truly done a 180 with my entire personality in the gym and I love who I have become. I love what the sport has taught me about myself and how truly mentally tough I am - someone who once felt they were the weakest person in the world when it came to the mental game. I have trained in a lot of different situations & environments - some of which where my entire worth was tied to lifting. Over the years I have had just as many downs as I have had ups… I have been f*cked over -HARD- several times… I have been hurt half of my career it seems like… having these times to reflect on “what am I without weightlifting?” and eventually coming to the realization that I am in fact A LOT even with weightlifting removed from the equation. I have a lot to offer the world and the people in my life on the daily beyond what I can lift over my head. In knowing that and having confidence in that, I don’t really have any reason to be SO emotionally tied to the numbers I can lift . . . disconnecting myself from the emotional rollercoaster that the sport can take you on has done sooo much for me. ? ?? ??? ???? ? ???????????? - ????????????? ?? ????????? ? ??. Any time there is a low, there is another high around the corner, you just have to have the faith and show up the next day to try your best and get something out of it. It isn’t always results - sometimes it is just personal development -walking away from a sh*t training session with your head held high develops your character. It is a tough world out there outside of the gym- things don’t always go our way. The next time you are feeling down & out because a chunk of metal made you feel like crap about yourself - change your perspective - appreciate the lesson & use the opportunity to gain something from it.
