Today marks what would have been the 100th birthday of Jackie Robinson. Though he died at age 53, his impact in the U.S. was enormous, both in #baseball, where he broke the color barrier as the first African American to play in the Major League in 1947, and in the nation at large. In many respects his influence is still felt. Ernie Sisto, a longtime #nytimes photographer, took this photo of Jackie Robinson on April 11, 1947, 4 days before Robinson’s first major league game with the #BrooklynDodgers.
