A #polarvortex is expected to hit a broad swath of the Midwestern U.S., bringing extreme cold and warnings of "possibly life-threatening conditions" after a powerful snowstorm pounded the region Monday.⠀

In Iowa, the coldest temperatures in over two decades are forecast to create wind chills of between -35 degrees and -55 degrees Fahrenheit (-37 and -48 degree Celsius) Tuesday night through Thursday morning. In Chicago, the daytime high is expected to reach a record of -13 degrees Fahrenheit Wednesday. The governor of Wisconsin declared a state of emergency, citing the snow and severe cold. Officials have warned people to limit their time outdoors.⠀
