Back in 2012, when I was doing an interview for “Keep On Keepin’ On” (a documentary I produced about my very 1st trumpet teacher, the legendary Clark Terry) I met this long hair-doo’d Australian surfer dude named Adam Hart (@surgos), who was on the other side of the camera working as the Director of Photography for the film. We immediately hit it off & every time I’d ask him about his dating life, he’d always say, “nah man...nonexistent...that’s not my thing...” But then ONE day, I asked him the same question, & I could tell by the look in his eyes that he had FOUND her. Marnie Miller (@marnieberryman)…A soul just as beautiful as his!! She even got him to cut his hair…((:0)) After KOKO, we became family with our entire directing/camera crew from Oz, so they stuck with us for the creation of my @netflix doc, “QUINCY”, with my doonkie @rashidajones. As a result, Adam Hart was also a cinematographer on “QUINCY”. It always made my heart smile to see him & Marnie together at our events, or whenever they’d come by the house…On May 24th, 2018, at 32 years young, our beautiful Marnie was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, an aggressive form of Breast Cancer, & with no time to prepare, she had to go through fertility treatments & 20 weeks of intensive chemotherapy infusions. According to her soulmate, Adam, “on December 18th 2018 she had a bilateral mastectomy with reconstructive surgery & on Christmas Eve was given the amazing news of a complete clinical response to the chemotherapy & pathology results coming back 100% cancer free.” There are no combination of words that can accurately describe a cancer survivor’s journey, so I won’t even attempt to put my finger on it…But I do want to share this incredibly strong woman’s journey with y’awl because although cancer is a terrible, terrible disease, Marnie is one tougher cookie…& she is FAMILY. Stay in the light, my dear Marnie…We are ALL here rooting for you as you make your final strides toward the finish line…Your LAST surgery in March!! And to all of the cancer survivors out there…I just want to say, I support you & most importantly, send my love to you..Your bravery & courage is ...(CONT’D IN COMMENTS BELOW)
