A little sample of what happened yesterday at the Chiaroscuro food photography workshop at @ex_lavatoio . My sincere gratitude to all our curious, enthusiast and fun attendees. • During workshops I often get asked whether certain types of photos work more on Instagram comparing to others. Apart from the fact that I still haven’t got used to the idea of getting asked questions about IG — I certainly don’t consider myself an Instagram master, I don’t know its secrets. I’ve got no “special” tips. I have never felt like I'm winning at IG game, on my almost 5 years of using it. As opposed to photography, which is my craft, my passion and my profession. I know how to walk people through it, what makes an image work and what breaks it, how editing can help bring it the story behind a shot. What I do feel like saying is that, obsession over Instagram is ruining the photography experience, and I say that as a professional photographer. Most of the (food) accounts I still enjoy the most are now those WITHOUT a pretentious, professional and curated photographic feed, with a warm, real and no-sell language in singular person. Upscale your photography game, because you like it, because it serves your business, because you’d use it to express yourself. But don’t get obsessed over Instagram (this is also constantly a note to myself too, although maybe lately I’m more relaxed about it). Most importantly, don’t go with a “style” because you think it’s popular. Don’t go dark or bright because someone else is doing it. Experiment, see what works better for you. Time-wise and energy-wise. Keep it where it’s still enjoyable. That’s all that matters when all has been said and done. #LabNoonWorkshops #FlavorsAndEncounters #FoodPhotography
