Spent the weekend celebrating our Teck Ghee students, presenting 7th Moon and Edusave awards that recognise their achievements in academics, CCA, community service, and leadership. These students have worked hard. The awards not only affirm that, but also their good character and how they help others around them.
For Singapore to do well, we need more than well-educated citizens and well-trained workers. Success depends not only on knowledge gained, but also on intangible and essential values such as care and concern, willingness to help others and contribute to society.
This is why we are making far-reaching changes to our education system. We are emphasising character and values, reducing emphasis on academic results and freeing up time for deeper and more engaged learning.
