T-minus 2 hours until our Impressionist & Modern Art Evening Sale gets underway in #NYC. One of the 60+ works headed to the auction block is Wassily Kandinsky’s ‘Zum Thema Jüngstes Gericht (On the Theme of the Last Judgment)’ from 1913 — a unique composition from the prime year of the artist’s career. One of the last oil paintings from his celebrated Munich period remaining in private hands, this stunning canvas is one of 31 works that Kandinsky completed in 1913, of which one is presumed destroyed, and 27 are in major museum collections. A highlight of ‘The Triumph of Color: Important Works from a Private European Collection’, the work was on long term loan to the Courtauld Institute of Art in London for over 15 years.
