#WomenArtistsWednesday – Kay Sage was one of the few female Surrealist artists of her generation. She arrived in Paris in 1937, having sold her jewellery to rent an apartment on the Ile Saint-Louis.⠀

‘Festa’ was painted in 1947, a pivotal year when Sage began exploring the enigmatic scaffolding structures that later characterised her paintings. The architectural style, evocative of the subconscious landscapes cherished by the Surrealists, became central to her art.⠀
