Photo by @joemcnallyphoto — Always amazing to return to #ellisisland. This beacon of hope that still exists in the NY harbor is so powerful in terms of its symbolism and the rich and wonderful tapestry that is the American people. I first visited there in the late 80’s, on assignment for @ナショナルジオグラフィック. The island was being rejuvenated then, and the very popular museum that now exists was just being reconstructed, after having been abandoned for many years. The truly astonishing area of the island is still abandoned—the old hospital wing. It has the spirits of history still there, in the old hallways, and wards. And of course there is an amazing view from there of the #statueofliberty. #history @saveellisisland
