Drawing upon a rich history of Chinese arts and culture, Wei Ligang has risen to the forefront of contemporary ink painting. Characteristic of the artist’s unconventional style, the fluid black lines constitute an abstract form of calligraphy, yet preserve the archaic grid system of Chinese writing in a pictorial form. The black ink starkly contrasts a brilliant gold foreground – a bold application of colour rarely used in traditional #ChineseCalligraphy.
