Isolation vs compound exercises. Know the difference.

I see many girls just working #glute at the gym but problem is there all butt & no body. I see some struggle changing the weights as they haven’t got any upper body strength! I’m a fan of both compound exercises & isolation work. It’s important to do both. Many will have their opinion but full weight training workouts you’ll need to do both to cover most exercises.

An isolation exercise is one that involves just one joint and major muscle group (the participation of other muscles is limited)
Ie: bicep curl, glute kickback, row, leg extension.

These exercises are also generally more suited to lighter weights and higher reps, which makes them good for periodization and controlling workout volume.

A compound exercise is an exercise that involves multiple joints and muscle groups. Ie: Squat, Deadlift, leg press etc

example, the squat involves moving the knees, ankles, and hip joint and requires a whole-body coordinated effort, with the quadriceps, hamstrings, and glutes bearing the brunt of the load.

As you can see, most simple movements that have you push, pull, and squat against the forces of gravity are compound exercises.

You may also notice that all pushing involves the chest, shoulders, and triceps, all pulling involves the back and biceps, and squats and deadlifts involve large portions of the body.

So if your short on time compound exercises like squats deadlifts leg press covers many muscle groups & gets the job done.. I’m 75% working compound & 25% isolation..
