For attendees, the #OregonCountryFair, a 3-day summer festival in Veneta, Oregon, is not just a fair: “For a lot of us, this is our Easter, Christmas, Valentine,” said Wren Davidson. This summer, 45,000 people made the pilgrimage to the 49th annual gathering. Programming ranges from educational events to acrobatic and musical performances. The fair draws on the eccentric aesthetics and ideology of the 60s and 70s — think Woodstock, or Burning Man without the tech crowd. But as the festival expands, the community must reconcile its countercultural identity with the increasing commodification of hippie ethos and critiques of cultural appropriation. @angalisfield took this photo of fairgoers dancing near the main stage on #nytassignment.
