Much of the attention in #Indonesia following the magnitude-7.5 earthquake and tsunami on Sept. 28 has been focused on the area of Palu. The city in Central Sulawesi, home to about 380,000 people, is reeling as rescue teams continue to search for #survivors trapped in toppled buildings. Disaster officials confirmed a new death toll, at more than 1,200, on Oct. 2 and said it was expected to rise as more communities are reached. In #Palu, the Associated Press reports, signs that read “We Need Food” and “We Need Support” have been propped along roads; children have begged for money in the streets; and long lines for fuel have led to traffic jams.
