In 1946, Picasso and his then-muse Françoise Gilot set up studio in the medieval ramparts of the Musée d’Antibes, where they happened upon injured owl. They bandaged him up and took him back to #Paris, where Gilot records that he ‘ate nothing but mice’. The small bird sent ripples through #Picasso’s visual language, becoming a major motif throughout the 50s and 60s, particularly in ceramics.
