We have some exciting news! Taronga is taking another threatened species under its wing. We are excited to share that we’ve embarked on a conservation breeding program for the Plains-wanderer. This unique and beautiful bird is a native ground-dwelling species at threat from extinction, with less than 1000 birds remaining in the wild. In partnership with the Office of Environment and Heritage’s Saving our Species program, we’ve built breeding aviaries at our 110-hectare sanctuary at Taronga Western Plains Zoo in Dubbo. The aim of this program is to establish an insurance population that can support the reintroductions of this species into the wild. #ForTheWild
