?“you owe it to yourself to quit being the apology. to hold your hand and sing your favorite song. to love another and see how far that will go.” This summer, we selected 6 #poems by female poets working in the United States and asked photographers to let the words inspire them. Turn your volume up to hear @tonyainstagram read her poem “Until the Stars Collapse.” ✨When @erikaprodriguez first read the poem, she saw it as both a reminder and permission to see the beauty in life, “something I feel I had forgotten after covering and living the aftermath of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico,” she writes. Erika, a freelance photographer, felt hopeless after the disaster. She sees this poem as “permission to accept that nothing is perfect, that life is made by experiences of love and of hurt, but that it is important to live it,” she writes. She sought to photograph familiar places from a new perspective. “We are more than the crisis,” she writes. For Erika, the poem’s meaning changed with time. She gave herself permission to see her surroundings “with more care and love, and with less pain and hopelessness.” Swipe left, then visit the link in our profile to see more photos inspired by #poetry.
