Our fourth auction of The Linyushanren Collection presents an important Japanese private collection of Chinese ceramics, all made in the Cizhou kiln from the Song to Yuan dynasties.

Highlights include this large ‘meiping’ vase, painted with a peony spray. In Chinese art, peonies were associated with wealth and honour, and were traditionally a token of love and exchanged as a farewell gift.

A rare large painted Cizhou truncated ‘meiping’. Northern Song-Jin dynasty (960–1234). Height: 9 ½ in. (24.1 cm.). Estimate: $60,000–80,000.
