After much anticipation, I’m so happy that today is podcast day and in today’s episode we talk cultural appropriation! I invited @susannabarkataki on the show to discuss this important (and sensitive!) topic in depth. Susanna is a teacher, inclusivity promoter, yoga culture advocate and also the author of the original article “How to Decolonize Your Yoga Practice” that was widely circulated across social media over the past few weeks. So - What is cultural appropriation and how does it relate to yoga? Where do we draw the line between cultural appreciation and appropriation? As westerners, is it ok for us to teach and practice yoga? Is it cultural appropriation to use mala beads, to chant and to put your hands in prayer?
