The World at Night project
A couple of nights ago in the Sierra mountains near Mammoth Lakes, California. The smog from the forest fires reduced the sky contrast but still the view was fantastic. The bright star at top is Altair, one of the three stars of the Summer Triangle.
On the technical side of this 20-sec exposure, some of the followers often ask if some of my nightscape images are composites or edited? I do mainly single-exposure classic photography for the past two decades, no digital blending of separate foreground and sky. Elements of the sky are a part of nature and I respect them the same way, not relocating or adding them where they do not exist. Every single star in these photos is real and the view often resembles what the unaided eye sees, when fully dark adapted, though the camera reveals more colors at dark.
