The World at Night project
A couple of nights ago on a high Sierra lake in California. In a clear dark sky like this it's so refreshing to watch the summer Milky Way and dazzling Mars (left) these nights. I was concerned of the forest fires and sky condition for the annual nightscapes workshop I'm doing in the area near Bishop. Down in the valley was in a blanket of smog but above a certain altitude you reaches over the haze layer. This was at about 9000ft (3000m). Crystal clear sky! With the reflected Milky Way, the calm lake looked a like a portal to the entire universe.
