Catch of the day: #Irish artist Gerard Dillon was enchanted with the West of #Ireland and his scenes, like birds-eye snapshots, record his days in Connemara. Painted in 1951, ‘Lobster Pots’ is set in Roundstone harbour and depicts two figures who appear to be discussing the rental of lobster pots with a local fisherman. Dillon’s paintings are often auto-biographical and although there is no documented evidence, it has been suggested that the figure staring directly at the viewer is the artist himself. This charming picture is coming to auction as part of The Joseph & Brenda Calihan Collection, a group of 16 works which will be offered in our Irish Art sale in London on 11 September.
