From @nytgender | Meet New Orleans’s all-female biker club, the Caramel Curves. With stilettos and magenta-hued burnouts, they’re hard to miss on the riding scene. “Yasss, queen!” a young woman shouted out of her car window recently as the @caramelcurvesmc roared past. The group is made up of 13 women brought together by their passion for #motorcycles and their desire to bike with other women like themselves. Their look conveys their playful interpretation of femininity, but the world of biking they’ve stepped into is usually associated with male figures. "Riding with women is just different,” said Rochelle Francois, a Caramel Curve biker. “I’m just one of those women that’s like, ‘Anything a man can do, a woman can do better.’” Women who try out for the group commit to several community service events and must prove their riding skills to the rest of the group over months of ride-alongs. But the process pays off. “They got a whole lot of men intimidated by them, because when they show up, they show out,” said Michael Strong, one of the founding members of the Saints and Sinners, one of the oldest motorcycle clubs in #NewOrleans. “When they came along, they changed the game.” @akasharabut took this photo of Nakosha Smith, one of the group’s founders, for our #Surfacing column.
