This is an upside-down catfish, aptly named for its habit of skimming the surface of the water while swimming upside down. Amazingly, some spend up to 90% of their time in the inverted position. Several scientific studies regarding their postural control have discovered that neither the swim bladder or inner ear mechanics (used for balance) were different to those in other fish. They feed mainly at night on insects, crustaceans and plant matter. This fish was photographed at @wrs.ig
