After yesterday’s World Refugee Day, I’m in a need for a bit of happiness, smiling faces of children... Rarely do I photograph birthdays or weddings. During last months visit to Shanghai for @natgeolearning, sure enough it happened. Our dearest one, @pasturewalker aka Lingyi, had a friend whose son was turning 9. In a tall apartment complex one afternoon last month, the family cut fresh watermelons and iced the cake. At first I wasn’t too into it, struggling to make something not all that visual, possibly semi-interesting. But when the lights dimmed and the candles were lit, clapping hands and a giddy young boy glowed in happiness. Happy birthday, Tuantuan...we need more happiness today, than ever before.
