‘Two Pink Flowers’ is an exuberant example of David Hockney’s blooming interest in still life during the late-1980s and ‘90s.

Vases of flowers had appeared in the artist’s works many years prior, but Hockney gradually gave greater weight to still life in this period, drawing on historical precedents from colourist masters like Cézanne and Matisse.
