The World at Night project
On this typical crystal clear night of Atacama Desert I was on an imaging assignment on Cerro Paranal Observatory, a prime site of the European Southern Observatory @esoastronomy. The galactic core was setting at dusk with the Zodiacal Light over the Very Large Telescope (VLT). Bright star Antares is near the center.
Many of the world’s observatories are also prime areas for stargazing and emerging astro-tourism thanks to the natural dark skies being preserved, the view which is lost to most people on the planet due to our own lights. Follow me @babaktafreshi to explore more of the world’s dark sky places.
