When life gives you lemons… this zesty depiction of a branch of #lemons was painted by Claude #Monet during a solo trip to the #Italian #Riviera in 1884, and reveals his ability to adapt the revolutionary techniques of the ‘new’ art that he was pioneering to such a traditional subject. Here, he creates a dynamic composition by casting a bright light from the right, which in turn casts vivid purple shadows on the blue blackdrop. The glowing light sets the foliage ablaze in yellow and encircles the lemons with delicate pinkish hues. The painting will go on view to the public for the first time since 1985, next week in our #London galleries. ???
