Bangladesh is one of the world's most densely-populated countries. Every year, hundreds of people there die from monsoons. Now, nearly a million #Rohingya Muslims live there. Most fled brutal attacks in Myanmar last year in one of the most rapid exoduses in modern history. Their shelters are built on what geologists say is little more than a sandbox. On the edges of the camps, aid groups are leading an enormous effort to try to move people out of danger. Rohingya laborers work for $5 a day chopping off the tops of empty hills to make flat land. The idea is to build sturdier houses, out of the path of the flooding. But #Bangladesh wants the refugees to return to Myanmar, so it prohibits what it considers permanent construction. And slicing the hills would make space for just a fraction of the 200,000 people who are in high-risk zones. The more realistic option?
