2 years ago @silversteinproperties invited street artists to emblazon an empty floor in one of its office buildings at the @wtc site. Now, in a partnership with the @panynj, the developer has given artists a nearby public place to display their talents. Their canvas: a collection of corrugated metal sheds. (The sheds house mechanical equipment that will one day service 2 World Trade Center.) Selected artists each received $1,000 for paint and a $2,000 honorarium. 6 murals are completed or nearly done; 2 more are expected. All the works will be on display for at least a year. @jeenahmoon photographed pedestrians walking past murals by @chinonmaria and @sebastian.mitre (at the top) and @brolga (below). Working at the site where the South Tower stood until September 11 carries an emotional gravity, and the artists grapple with the enormity of the loss that occurred where they are painting. But many spoke of a determination to balance that loss with art that lifts the spirit. Visit the link in our profile to read more.
