Some @NFL teams deploy alternate “cheerleaders” to charm male fans in the stands. They're hired on looks and dressed like cheerleaders, but don't do any cheering or require any dance training. Our reporter @julietmacur interviewed a dozen women who have worked for #NFL teams as noncheering cheerleaders and 6 others who had direct knowledge of the noncheering squads. They described minimum-wage jobs in which harassment and groping were common. Jackie Chambers, a 33-year-old model, worked as a @ヒューストン・テキサンズ noncheering cheerleader last season. “Teams don’t want fans to know about it,” said Jackie, who was photographed here by @starghill. “All of the cheerleaders are supposed to blend in with each other.” The @ヒューストン・テキサンズ required their cheerleaders to work 50 promotional appearances each year. The team earned tens of thousands of dollars for them, per cheerleader. But the women earned $7.25 an hour. Last week, one of Jackie’s teammates filed a lawsuit over pay and abuse. Jackie plans to join the suit as a plaintiff if the case is certified as a class-action lawsuit. Visit the link in our profile to read more.
