The setup was sparse and dramatic: a wide-open field, huge stacks of speakers arranged around a bonfire and cameras filming every moment for a live stream. Kanye West’s 8th album, “Ye,” was unveiled last night in #Wyoming, where he’s been working on new music. Most of the audience was flown in for the occasion: Kanye’s wife, @キム・カーダシアン; representatives of his label, @defjamrecords; a handful of other artists (@プシャ・T, @lilyachty, @ファボラス); and a smattering of celebrities. @2チェインズ was there, walking his French bulldog, Trappy. The conservative pundit @realcandaceowens’s presence was a reminder of the context in which “Ye” arrives. Since April, #KanyeWest has been on a quixotic path — letting go of his managers, flaunting his #MakeAmericaGreatAgain cap and contending that slavery was a choice, among other things. At least some of the purpose of “Ye” is a course correction to what he describes, on the new song “No Mistakes,” as “a shaky-ass year.” In several places on the album, he touches on his mental health. But more important, he maps out a path for forgiveness. As for last night — which was photographed here by @itsdorgan — many of the guests ended up dancing at a taxidermy-filled honky-tonk in downtown Jackson.
