There was a face painter at CMA that was painting famous works of art on the kids’ faces. No one was allowed to choose what he painted so it was always a surprise reveal at the end. Most kids were walking around with Monet Lily Pads and Van Gogh Sunflowers on their faces and they looked pretty amazing. Then Mazzy sat down and he went decidedly more modern. This was the beginning of a Mondrian before he added the thick black grid lines that you can see in my CMA story highlight. Mazzy was very nice to the guy when he showed her the mirror, but then she turned to me and I could see she was trying really hard to hold back tears. I told her it looked cool but then Harlow got startled when she saw her and Mazzy got really uncomfortable. She wanted it off ASAP. I told her that if we tried to wash it off, it was very possible that it could get worse, but she wanted to take the risk. We ended up in the bathroom for a solid 20 minutes and used almost a whole roll of toilet paper to get it off. At the end, it looked like a crime scene in there. But I have to commend Mazzy because she was calm the whole time and never threw a fit. She let me do what needed to be done and was appreciative that I fixed things for her so she could go back out and continue enjoying her time at the museum. Looking back at my story, I was also really impressed at how cordial she was to the face painter, instead of getting upset on the spot. And how she pulled me aside privately to address the problem instead of making a scene. My girl is growing up. #thebigkidyears
