Speaking at the @rainforestalliance Gala last night! "Our second child was born 9 weeks ago so Damani and I have spent the last two months basically just changing diapers, feeding, smiling, kissing, and snuggling. And every night time wake up, every wipe, every bounce has been a reminder that sustaining life is profound and wonderful. This might be obvious to the farmers and sustainability champions but in a society that often prefers the most innovative, the fastest growing, and the biggest profit I think it can be easy to forget that the simple actions that maintain life are just as fulfilling and necessary. Certainly for me, the reminder a baby offers us has been grounding and clarifying -- it is joy, not (just) sacrifice, that comes from sustaining life.
